(UK – Monday 23rd August, 2021) At Edinburgh TV Festival today, Disney+ announced that Rosa Salazar will take the lead in UK Star Original and romantic comedy action thriller, Wedding Season.
This genre-busting series about two people who shouldn’t be together, but who can’t stay away from one another, begins production later this month and will be shooting in Scotland, Manchester, London and Las Vegas.
Salazar stars as Katie, a picture-perfect bride who we meet on her wedding day surrounded by the dead bodies of her new husband and every member of his family. The police think her lover Stefan did it. Stefan thinks Katie did it. Katie thinks her ex-husband did it. And no one knows for sure what the truth is… Wedding Season is a fast-paced, superbly entertaining action thriller.
Most recently, Salazar finished filming Netflix’s limited series adaptation of horror revenge novel Brand New Cherry Flavor, where she is a producer and stars opposite Catherine Keener and Eric Lange. Additionally, she wrapped the second season of Undone for Amazon, where she stars opposite Bob Odenkirk. Previously, Salazar was the title character in Robert Rodriguez’s anime adaptation Alita: Battle Angel. Additionally, she appeared in Insurgent, two Maze Runner installments and Bird Box. Also adept behind the camera, Salazar made her writing and directing debut with Good Crazy, which was in competition for the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2017.

As well as exploring a modern approach to love and storytelling, Wedding Season has some huge action pieces that I can’t wait to get started on!”

Writer and Executive Producer Oliver Lyttelton added: “I’ve been a fan of Rosa’s for a long time now – she’s one of the most exciting and unpredictable actors in the world, and I couldn’t be more excited that she’s our Katie.”
Wedding Season is an eight-episode series, produced by Dancing Ledge Productions (The Salisbury Poisonings, New Pope) with Chris Carey (Les Miserables, Apple Tree Yard), Laurence Bowen (The Eichmann Show, Delhi Crime) and Toby Bruce (The Salisbury Poisonings), serving as Executive Producers. Wedding Season is produced in association with Jax Media (Russian Doll) with Lilly Burns (Russian Doll, Search Party), and Tony Hernandez also taking Executive Producer responsibilities. The series is penned by up-and-coming screenwriting talent Oliver Lyttelton (Cheaters) also an executive producer and will be directed by George Kane (Timewasters, Flack, Crashing).
Disney+ will be creating 50 local productions by 2024 as it continues to work with outstanding creators and premium producers as part of the company’s commitment to source, develop and produce original productions in Europe.
